On a gloriously warm Easter Sunday morning, I was the sole Harrier representative at the Tom Scott Memorial 10 Mile race at Strathclyde Park.
After a year away due to the Commonwealth Games, the event returned to Strathclyde Park for the 53rd edition of the race. The race is renowned for being a generally fast 10 mile course, however there were a few gradual inclines between 3 and 4 miles as you looped out of the park and back alongside the M&D’s theme park.
After a fairly taxing hill session on Thursday night, it took me 5 or 6 miles to really hit my stride, so much so the 2nd half of my race was comfortably faster than my first. I was using this event as one of my last training runs before the London Marathon, so I was’t too worried about pace and more focused on avoiding any injuries. Nevertheless, I did manage to take 3 minutes off my only previous 10 mile race time, set in Millport in September.
From a pool of 285 runners, Craig Ruddy of Inverclyde AC came out on top with a time of 49:22. Megan Crawford of Fife AC was first female at 56:48.
