Around Cumbrae 10 Miler

After Scott woke up and pulled out with an unexpected hangover that only left four Harriers to make the trip to Cumbrae and the ten mile road race. It was a lot windier than usual as we set off, Mick had agreed to pace me round and judging the conditions I requested 1hr 25mins. So going against all my urges to shoot off and kill off all my nemesis’s in the first mile Mick reined me in to a steady pace and I sat in behind the back of his knee shielded from the wind for eight miles then we picked it up as the wind got stronger and went by a dozen or so tiring runners, I really felt good running strong at the end after holding back at the start, and the king of pace brought me in at ……….1hr 25mins. A rare outing by Joe McCartney who ran really well in his new shoes was third Harrier home followed by Chris Gunn training up for a half marathon ran well too in the windy conditions. A nice wee day out not my fastest time but one of the most enjoyable runs I’ve had hopefully be back next year.
The race was won by Kenneth Neil of Ayr Seaforth in 57m07s and the first female and third overall was Katie White of Garscube Harriers in 59m 49s.

There were 267 finishers
Maryhill Results;
Chris Hever 126th – 1hr 25m 17s
Mick McCartney 127th – 1hr 25m 20s
Joe McCartney 177th– 1hr 32m 12s
Chris Gunn 204th — 1hr 36m 59s
Thanks to Scott and Gianlu, and to Mick for the pacing and transport
