DAAA XC Relays

Round two of the 2018/19 merit league took place at the DAAA Cross Country Relays with another good turnout for Maryhill and another top performance from Rory.

Round two of the 2018-19 Merit League saw 13 harriers travel to Helensburgh for the DAAA Cross Country Relays.

The 2-lap course was based in Duchess Woods and started with a lap of the wet and long grass on the playing fields followed by a long trail climb then a quick descent before a splash through a stream and back round the playing field to start the second lap. Whilst mostly on trails there were still wet and slippery exposed tree roots and plenty of fallen leaves to contend with on the ascents and more interestingly on the descents which kept concentration levels high.

We fielded two full male teams, a full female team plus a partial female team (Cat & Susan). We also brought our club XC big guns to the race with two men’s club XC Champions plus both the reigning women’s club XC and two veteran’s XC Champions. And that’s before we dipped into the growing pool of quick talent……..

Some great results were duly delivered and are listed below – the men’s A Team came home a brilliant 4th and featured a great first leg by Rory (wearing road shoes so more to come there!), Finn also had a great run in his first XC outing. Well done also to Susan who was racing XC in club colours for the first time. Close times indicate that there will be some epic battles over the next year’s racing!

Strong racing aside, it was a great day out – the new gazebo delivered another PB in the drizzly conditions plus tea & coffee and homemade cakes/flapjacks (thanks Linda!) went down very well after the racing had finished.

Linda also made a video of the day complete with interviews with a few of the club’s stars – well worth a view

A big shout-out to all those involved in the organisation of the race and especially all the marshals out on the course plus Mick who gave a few last words of advice before the start.

The first male team was Glasgow University H&H A-Team. 17 full male teams finished.
The first female team was the A-Team of Glasgow University H&H. 12 full female teams finished.
