This is a 5 mile road race, that returned last year after an absense of around 20 years, and took place on Saturday down in Kirkcudbright. I journeyed down for the weekend to take part in it. The course started off through the town and along a main road for the first 3k, before looping round and back towards the start/finish along a much smaller road. I was going quite well for the first 3k, in amongst the lead group, but started to fall back a bit after that. From around 5.2k to 6.2k the course takes in a brutal climb that drained my legs, before a very fast downhill finish, where I was cheered home by Fiona.
The race was won by Jonathan Dale in a time of 28:46, with the first female (3rd overall) being Shettleton’s Ruth Joss in 29:09. I finished 12th with a time of 31:22. A total of 81 runners completed the course.
