This event was free to enter on Entry Central, runners being asked to bring a tenner’s worth of non-perishables for Glasgow NW foodbanks. There were over 120 online entrants, (I was no.118, glad I haven’t a twin brother) plus entries on the day. The pure flat route was not quite two x fig. of 8’s around the Mugdock res’r complex, with just one crossover to vary the direction & interest for the smaller loop.
It was well supported by clubs outwith Garscube, I chatted with a Troon Tortoise for eg. (Graeme fast for his species though) I was the only Maryhiller, with the Parkruns plus the Sun.day Mens’ 10k as competing attractions for others.
Hot, humid, but enjoyable & well organised says it all really; a piper added atmosphere, though I gave the pre-start aerobics warm-up session a miss as I wasn’t wearing enough lycra.
Banana, shortbread & water in a finish goodybag were very welcome for a friendly free race.
Winner; Christopher Devine Gars 27m 24
2nd Euan Geddes Gars 27m 33
15th Melanie Eynon 1st Lady 32m 40
61st Fletcher Murdoch MH 44m 36
81 finishers recorded.
Puzzled at so many entry no-shows, suspect many folk just registered support, maybe non-running contributors. Either way, an excellent initiative which must have raised at least 4 figures worth of food. So sad it should be needed.
