Neil McCover Half Marathon

This inaugural event commemorates Neil McCover, a serving police officer and active office bearer with Kirky Olympians, who was killed in a bike accident a year ago.
Older members will remember the race as a reincarnation of the former Luddon race.
A wet & windy morning, & yes I made it to the start line, early for once in my life, parked & checked in before the rush. Felt like sh!t at the start, yes that good!
Turned out to be good running weather after a delayed start– the rain eased off, quite mild so the breeze was welcome– loads of puddles to skirt round, nice slippy surfaces.
Route went round most of the villages between Glasgow & the Campsies– fast trail my elbow! Undulations are us. Finally felt ok over the last 2 or 3 miles, but happy to get round, setting yet another new pw. Just outside a world record time– for the full marathon.
Marshalling was outstanding, both in quantity & quality; half the Strathclyde force must have been out round the trail, showing amazing solidarity, in addition to marshalls & stewards, young & old, all giving their encouragement to tailenders like me after hours of hanging around.
Tewelde Mengisteab of Shett.won in 1.10.20, ok so it’s a fast trail if your name’s Tewelde!
Katie White of Garscube was 1st lady in 1.24.04.
Fletcher finished in 2.04.52 (chip) or 2.05.12(gun), 293rd from 342 finishers. I hadn’t really got going yet.
