Loch Katrine Marathon

On Sunday the 22nd March Fletcher and I traveled to Loch Katrine to take part in the marathon of the Loch Katrine Running Festival. This event is now in its 3rd Year and is a charity event raising money for Alzeimer Scotland.

The festival has 3 distances- 10K, 1/2 Marathon and the full marathon. It starts at the Pier and makes its way round to Stronachlachar. It was a very hilly route( note -‘Graveyard hill’ at mile 18) and not at all undulating as I had expected. However very rewarding and as the weather was kind I was able to enjoy the views. It was my first year running here and I was very impressed with the organisation and friendliness of everyone. Every water station supplied water, juice, sweets , fruit and plenty of encouragement.

All in all there were 298 finishers and a new course record set by Gail Murdoch for the women’s marathon( 3.15.10). 2nd and 3rd women also broke the course record.

I finished 97/105 in a time of 5.15.28 and Fletcher 100/105 in a time of 5.38.00 (3rd in his category).

Results- Marathon – winners – Gerry Craig (M)-2.53.23 and Gail Murdoch (F) – 3.15.10

1/2 Marathon – Euan Carrick (M) – 1.23.50 and Karen McPherson (F) -1.32.27

10K – John Fox (M) – 38.30 and Judith Turner (F) – 41.57
