As a local event for me, I’d no excuse but to head down the road on that wild wet Sunday morning, for a character-building hilly training run.
The start provided a chuckle for most, as the would-be front runners didn’t take the hint to start when the hooter was sounded- as the sustained blast continued, the starter had to say, “Go! Go!”
The route led along the riverside, past the hotel & the old ferry, & followed around the woodland path to the bridge, up & over to Old Kilpatrick with a lap of the pitches & back via the other side of the bridge. The run was fine until the return crossing, when the wind & rain hit full force; didn’t fancy wearing waterproofs for a short race!
Cake seemed to be the theme after the event, that plus a very stylish finishers’ medal. As for me, I posted a new pw for the distance, breaking out of the hour barrier for the first time. A very satisfying & traffic-free route though, one of those where you feel much better afterwards. Anyhow, It got me out on a Sunday morning, mainly because I’d talked some friends into it!
