A total of 12 Harriers travelled down to the Duchess Woods in Helensburgh for this year’s DAAA XC Relays. This is a 2-lap approx. 4000m course through forest trails and a muddy rugby field. The Harriers who raced last year’s event were familiar with what the race comprised of – 2 brutal climbs, traversing a flowing stream and a bog-like, well trampled, grassy field.
The men’s race was won by Victoria Park COG in a combined time of 55:10. First ladies team was Garscube Harriers with a combined time of 52:07.
Fastest men’s lap was by Sean Fontana – Victoria Park – 13:06
Fastest women’s lap was by Laura Devine – Garscube Harriers – 16:54
Maryhill Harriers A team – although slightly different from last year – completed the course in a combined total of 65:39. That’s over 2 minutes faster than last year’s time of 67:50! The men’s B team completed the course in 78:47 – a time that was slower than last year’s B team, but still respectable considering this was George and David’s first XC for the club.
Our ladies team completed the race in 63:54.
A special mention has to be given to Laura, who not only took over a minute off her time from last year, but also provided the most exciting moment of the day as she chased and forced George to sprint over the line just in front of her.
Thanks to Caroline and the bump for support.
