On Sunday, Andy, Craig and I travelled up to Balfron to take park in their annual 10k event. A bumper crowd of almost 600 took to the field for the 10 year anniversary edition of this race, with local celebrity and Scottish swimming star Ross Murdoch getting us underway.
Both Craig and Andy had warned me previously that this was a tough course, and they were not lying. One of the hilliest 10ks I’ve ran, tougher than the Barge, however with great views over the surrounding hills on a nice sunny day.
The race is a straight out and back, and although going off a wee bit too fast on the downhill start, I was fairly pleased with my run overall. Certainly good training for the upcoming Polaroid races, which will surely feel like a stroll in the park now! Very well organised race, with enthusiastic support all round the course as well as great medals and tshirts for all runners.
The race was won by Peter Avent of Penicuik Harriers in 33:08, and first female was Edel Mooney of Lothian RC in 37:34. Harriers results below :
23rd – Andy Sutherland – 38:43
46th – Craig White – 41:50
58th – Scott Coulter – 42:51
