Dumfries Half Marathon

It was a kind of late decision to do this, only entering last weekend, but I had not raced for ages and Christine did not need the car. It also gave me the chance to visit my parents and earn some surprise visit brownie points, my sister was also there too which is like double brownie points.

The route heads out from the south side of the town from The Crichton towards Caerlaverock then turns west to Glencaple, from which you mostly follow the River Nith back to Kingholm , most of this is either on quiet B roads or paths. You get great views of Criffel when you turn west.

I was feeling really quite good about my first ½ marathon for over 4 years, and set off at good pace. I kept this going for most of the way around, although was getting a bit tired at the end. Most of the time I was on my own, and I did not really pass many people or indeed get overtaken, which must be
down to fairly accurate positioning at the start I guess.

The race was won by Jonathan Carpenter, Corstorphine Aac in 1:14:20.

First female was Carole Setchell, Shettleston Harriers in 1:25:09

I finished 64th in 1:33:35, which is a PB for me, very happy with this.

272 runners completed the race, which was well organised by Dumfries Running Club.
