DAAA X Country

After the torrential race of last week, most of us had a good idea that this year’s DAAA cross country race at Balloch Castle Country Park was going to be pretty heavy going. On the day, the weather wasn’t too bad with only light rain and fairly mild temperatures. The course was the same as last year with two anti-clockwise laps of the park for the ladies and three for the men. The upper half of the course wasn’t too bad with some solid running, but the steep hill at the far end saw quite a few runners falling and the bottom right hand corner was a bit of a slog to get through the mud. Overall, it was quite good fun!

The ladies race was won by Suzanne Gilmour from Victoria Park in a time of 25.15. Dumbarton AAC won the ladies team event.
The results for MH ladies are:

24th Linda Sinclair (34.48)
32nd Margaret Peebles (38.00)

The men’s race was won by Martin Hayes from Victoria Park in 33.01. Garscube Harriers won the men’s team event.

The results for the MH men are:

29th Andy Sutherland (39.09)
31st Andrew Stevenson (39.39)
54th Kieran Sulliven (42.29)
58th Duncan Riddell (43.03)
69th Scott Coulter (45.43)
77th Chris Hever (50.58)
78th Chris Gunn (59.04)

Special mention must go to Andrew Stevenson for an excellent performance. Andrew started the race very strongly and led the Men’s harrier teams for the first two laps. Also bad luck to David MacLenghan who pulled up injured during the early stages of the race. Many thanks to Kenny for officiating and Heather and Mick for the support.
