As is predictable with the Jimmy Irvine, this year’s event took place on a drizzly, cold and windy day in Bellahouston Park. Thankfully it was nowhere near as bad as last year, as 8 Harriers made the journey south.
The race was the usual wind around the park and surrounding roads, with a nice downhill start making up for the few sharp corners on the route. I started quite far up the pack, but quickly let Kevin and Andy breeze past me and concentrated on trying to hold off Natalie and Craig. The route doubles back on itself quite often, allowing you a view of the runners coming up behind you, which helped give me a kick whenever I saw a blue Harriers top getting too close!
Kevin took off very well, leading the Blue contingency for the first 6km before a resurgent Andy progressed from a deliberately conservative start to power past. I managed to hold on as 3rd Harrier, while Natalie ran a tremendous post-pregnancy PB to finish 1st female Harrier and 6th female overall
All the Harriers turned in great results, particularly Kevin with another fantastic PB, and commiserations to Craig who had to pull out mid race after a misplaced car key caused an injury! Also, great to see former Harriers Stephen and Caroline Jones who had travelled up with the Perth Road Runners.
Thank you to Bellahouston Road Runners for putting on another great event, and to Allan, Skye, John and Findlay for braving the cold to support us. The race was won by Shettleston’s Daniel Bradford in 32:21, and first female was Ann Robin of Bellahouston Road Runners in 38:41. Harriers results below.
