Sunday saw the final leg of the 4 event Polaroid series at Vale of Leven. The conditions were cloudy and dry in what is traditionally the toughest of the 4 races due to a 1km long gradient through Balloch Country Park near the start of the race. Andy, Gordon and Fletcher were all rounding off the full series, while Caroline and I were competing in our second race of the series.
The route was changed this year to include a cycle path alongside the river which I thought was more scenic than the usual main road route, which, apart from the hill at the start made the route generally flat.
The race was won by Shettleston’s Tewoldeberhan Mengisteab in 29m 58s; the first female home was Fiona Mathieson an LVet50 from Falkirk Victoria in 35m 24s.
Andy led the Harriers contingent home with his fourth sub 40m performance of the series. Gordon and Fletcher posted good times comparable with their other races, and Caroline and I were delighted to take around 3m from our previous best’s on this course as well as bagging a pair of sunglasses each in our goody bags. Evelyn Curran also finished her 4th race but no time was posted.
