Maryhill’s three amigos Mick, Caroline and Chris (+Willie) went on tour again last night this time to the Troon 10k. The conditions were dry and warm with a strong headwind at the start but a welcome tailwind at the finish. The race was chipped and after some Chuckle Brothers routines Willie managed to get Mick’s chip attached to his shoe and we were off for a warm up.
The start was well organised for the expected 1100 entrants with sections marked out for predicted times to enable a smooth start, which was just as well as after 200m the course narrowed to a 10ft wide path along the Esplanade but didnt cause too much problems.
Mick who was feeling spritely ran on ahead and I stuck with Caroline for 2k before she gradually pulled away, the course was generally flat but the strong wind didn’t do us any favours. In the final stretch with the wind behind me I made a valiant attempt to catch Caroline but she maintained her lead to the finish.Excuses bandied about were old age, baldness, scurvy, polio and ricketts, but hopefully it should all be cleared up in time for the Clydebank 10k
Mick McCartney–38m 43s–55th–MV50-4th
Caroline Hassan–48m 52s–364th
Chris Hever——–49m 22s–378th
There were 925 finishers.
Thanks to Willie McGill for driving and support.
