Sunday 29th August
Nice conditions for this race round Paisley, bright and sunny with a stiff cooling breeze. The route was a loop around Paisley with not so much PB breaking potential as ankle breaking potential. We squeezed out from the narrow start up and down kerbs over central reservations and cobbled streets and skipping between bollards. That was the first km. After that we spread out a bit and the race was quite enjoyable with plenty of people out supporting. From 5k-9k the route took us along a cycle path which helped shield us from the wind taking us on to the last km which was an upward gradient for 500m, then a downward sweep to the finish.
Four Maryhill Harriers took part, Mick and Andy having a battle up front while Caroline got the better of me in mid division around the 5k mark. Knowing the course now I would definitely do it again but would make sure I started well up at the front to avoid the congestion.
The race was won by Tsequi Tewelde of Shettleston in 30.17 (male) and Kerry Lang of Kilbarchan 35.08 (1st Female)
Mick McCartney 40:07—57th
Andy Sutherland 40:48—71st
Caroline Hassan 48:57—385th
Chris Hever 49:34—407th
There were 1124 finishers
