or the first time in a long while, this year’s Nigel Barge 10K race actually went ahead as scheduled!
128 runners turned up on a cold and slightly windy morning to run two laps of the usual challenging, hilly course which passes through the Garscube estate, down Switchback Road, along Temple Road, through Dawsholm park, along Maryhill Road before finishing back in the business park.
The race was won by Russell White (Stirling University Athletics Club) in a time of 32.36. The first female was Carla Molinaro (Bellahouston Road Runners) who finished in 12th place and a time of 37.59.
A great turnout from family and friends of the Maryhill Harriers meant that many of us were able to run this year. I started of too fast as usual being closely chased by Craig round the first lap. I managed to catch up with a runner from Motherwell AC who helped pace me up the Vet school Hill at the start of the 2nd lap. From then on the two of us took turns setting the pace, up the various hills which kept the tempo quite high. This was my first time running the course in three years and even though we organise the race ourselves (!), this has to be one of my favourite local 10K’s, in terms of set up and course.
Anyway, the results for the mighty blues:
9th: Andy Sutherland (37.22)
16th: Craig White (38.28)
27th: Andrew Stevenson (40.19)
39th: Natalie Haran (42.56)
52nd: Michael Kemp (45.01)
68th: Kieran Sullivan (46.56)
82nd: Catriona Nisbet (48.56)
92nd: Cheryl Carlin (51.20)
Special mention to Natalie for finishing 5th female and to Andrew Stevenson for yet another excellent performance at senior level. A very big thank you to all the family, friends and members of the club who came out to help organise, run, marshall, kitchen, last runner etc and make the race such a big success. As mentioned above, this allowed many of us to run in the race and a consequence of this was that we were able to compete and win, the men’s team prize (AS, Craig White, Andrew Stevenson, Michael Kemp) for the first time in quite a while!!!!
