Mens 10k

This Sunday (29th) was the annual Men’s Health 10K at Bellahouston
Park. It was perfect running weather with a cool 12 degrees and a
slight drizzle. Although a mass event (3228 runners finished), this
was a well organised run with a fairly flat course. It started in
Bellahouston Park, and after a run through the lower half of the park,
headed out the southside and towards Pollock Park. The course the ran
round the perimeter of Pollock Park (similar to the Great Scottish
Run) and then back along the road to Bellahouston. The course entered
the north east gate and then a grandstand finish round three side of
the park. This year the race was won by David Millar (unattached) in a
time of 31.25.
The Maryhill Harriers were represented by me (AS) and Captain Curran.
This was my third race in eight days after doing the Vale of Leven 10K
last Sunday and the Kirkintilloch 10K on Thursday night. Nevertheless,
still felt OK and set off as usual far too fast. My first 1K was 3.26
and the second was 3.30! I then calmed down and ran a steady 5K in
18.56. This was then followed by the second 5K in around 20 minutes to
finish with a time of 39.06. This was Gordon’s last race before a
couple of weeks break and after running all the Polaroid 10Ks was out
to beat his season’s best as well as his workmates from the
Strathclyde Fire Service. He accomplished both of these targets with a
time of 40.02.

Special mention to David McLenaghan, Sam Thomson and girlfriend who
gave out Maryhill Harrier flyers at the end of the race, and also Evelyn
and George for their support.
