Maryhill Harriers Hill Race

This year the club decided to hold our own hill race, rather than use another organised race. To keep things simple the hill/route chosen was that of the Kilpatricks Hill Race.

The location is easy to get to, the distance and climb are not too large and the ground fairly good to run on. There is the advantage that anyone who has done the actual hill race would know the course.

10 of us turned up for a go, with a wide range of knowledge of the route and speed. In the interests of safety it was decided to split the runners into two groups; a faster group and a slower group, each group having two runners who knew the course. This approach worked well with no one getting lost and everyone getting to try their best. Conditions were dry and hot for running with good visibility on the hills.

Speed and local knowledge of the route proved the key to success with Jamie blasting round the course in 58 minutes to win the title club hill running champion (male).

Speed and determination managed to see Caroline Hever over the course in 5th place to win the ladies title.

We all got a good night of running, and those new to hill running got the chance to try it over a local course.
