As with the last two years, the Dunky Wright 5K which took place on Saturday doubled as both a merit league event and the clubs 5K championship race.
The course was the usual two laps of the business park, followed by the loop out along the road and then back towards the Playdrome via the canal. The weather was the best it’s been all year with a really sunny warm day bringing out a strong field of 174 runners. The race was won by Paul Sorrie (Shettleston Harriers) in a time of 15.08. The first lady was Claire Gibson (Kilbarchan AC) who finished in 51st position and in a time of 17.05. There was lots of sprint finishes from the mighty blues up and down the field for those precious merit league points. The results for the Maryhill Harriers:
84th Andy Sutherland (17.59)- Mens 5K Champion
89th Craig White (18.12)
123rd John Weir (20.04)
154th Chris Hever (22.33)
159th Ben Watson (23.18)
164th James Prior (24.26)
165th Caroline Hever (24.27)- Ladies 5K Champion
Special mention must go to Goitom Mengsteab who joined us for last weeks two training sessions to get back into running and then completed the Dunky Wright in an impressive 17.47 (77th) in his first race in Glasgow. This says a lot about how good our training sessions area!
