Brian Goodwin 10k

Three hundred and seventy-seven runners descended on Pollok Park on Friday night for the annual Brian Goodwin 10k, ran by Bellahouston Harriers. Myself, Craig W, Andy and a particularly bronzed Chris made up the blue contingent.

The race was the usual fast two loops round Pollok Park and the surrounding road, leaving from the Cartha Rugby club. A cool evening meant for good running conditions on a course that usually lends itself well to fast times (for me anyway). On this occasion, Chris had only arrived home from Turkey that morning, and Andy had ran the Kirkie 10k the previous evening, so a massive well done to both of them for completing.

As for my race, I managed to shoot off way too fast for the first kilometre, going clear of both Andy and Craig which was a foolish move. They both caught me shortly after and surged away whilst I took another kilometre to settle into a decent pace. Once I got going I felt strong, and checking my watch at 8km noticed that I was at just over 33 mins. Despite the legs beginning to tire slightly, I went chasing the PB and managed to cross the line in 41.30, nearly 50 seconds quicker than my previous best. This made for a particularly enjoyable burger and beer at the end courtesy of the post-race BBQ.

As always, a brilliantly organised event and a real highlight of the race calendar.

Tewolde Mengisteab won in a time of 31.06, with first female Jenny Bannerman (Inverness Harriers) setting a new course record of 35.37.
