Sorry for the delay in this report going on the website. I was missed out in the results and there was a bit of a mix up due to there being two number 158s, however it’s all sorted now…
Stephen, Andy and myself took part in the Bellahouston Harriers Brian Goodwin 10K on Friday 24rd June. It was a nice mild overcast evening and the course was 2 loops (without km marks) from Cartha QP rugby club through Pollok park and back along the road.
All three of us got our excuses out before the race began -mine being the start of a cold, Andy’s tired legs from his Conic hill debut on Monday and Stephen had already ran 9 miles in the morning. I found myself completing the first lap of the course in a PB time of 20:23 and I knew I had passed a couple of the females that I am normally behind, so I felt that I had gone off too fast and decided to try to just survive the 2nd lap. I tried to stay with a group of lads and we took turns to lead around the park section of the course, and then a Dumbarton girl over took me, followed by a Dumbarton male, who encouraged me to stick with him. They seemed to get further and further away, but when I knew I only had about 0.5K to go, I did my best to up my pace a bit, and by the last corner, he was only a second or so in front. I was absolutely delighted to come in at 41 min 33 secs, which is more than 30 sec off my PB. I’m sure that Mick will have something to say about my split times, but it was difficult with no km markers.
The race was won by Robert Gilroy Ronhill Cambuslang H. in 32:04 and first female was Jacqui Thomson in 38:32.
Andrew Sutherland (29) 39:00
Caroline Jones (51, 5th female) 41:33
Stephen Jones (57) 42:18
We all got a goody bag with water and a medal, and then got in the queue for the bbq, where they served big juicy cheese burgers and salad…it was brill!
A big thank you to the organisers and to Erica and Yvonne for sorting out my times so promptly.
