Nigel Barge 10k

There was much excitement associated with this year’s Nigel Barge 10K. A move back to the traditional month for this race resulted in it filling up to our 300 limit, which is more entrants than we’ve seen in many years. After last weekend’s weather of snow, we were very lucky with the weather on the day. Apart from a little flooding at the back of the sports centre and some wind along Maryhill road, the conditions were pretty good for racing in January. The course was the usual two laps of the Garscube estate, Switchback, Temple, Dawsholm and Maryhill Roads with a new finish just before the bridge in the estate. The race was won by Mickey Breen in an excellent time of 32.38. The first lady was Hayley Haining (Kilbarchan) in a time of 35.55.There was 265 finishers.

The Maryhill Harriers were also out in force:

38th Andy Sutherland (39.18)
51st Andrew Stevenson (40.56)
69th Scott Coulter (42.18)
74th Craig Gilmore (42.40)
84th Alan Richardson (43.10)
101st Ross Trearty (44.49)
110th Natalie Somerville (45.41)
133rd James Prior (47.50)
171st Chris Hever (50.57)
179th Lochlann Henderson (52.00)
208th Catriona Nisbet (55.15)
225th Liz Towers (58.11)

Special mention to Scott Coulter who ran a PB. It was great to see this historic race so well supported by all the local clubs and even those from further afield such as our former club mates and friends Stephen and Caroline Jones from Perthshire runners. Also a very big thanks to Duncan, Kenny, Chris and Alistair for their contributions in organising the race, Margaret and Caroline on registration, Fletcher on the thankless task of being last runner and the hardest working person on the day, Linda and her team in the canteen. Also much thanks to all friends and family members who turned up to help marshall on the day and allow most of the club to run.
