The race took place at the usual venue of Maryhill Park and along the path of the Kelvin at the riding school. After walking the course and deciding on the best route Duncan delivered a race briefing to make sure everyone knew where they were going, Caroline acting as timekeeper started the race, everything started off going to plan until Andy and Andrew hit the football park and went left instead of right, Scott and Kieran followed suit so Duncan had to stop mid race and warn the rest of us of the change of plan which knocked about a quarter of a mile off the 4-mile route.
Meanwhile at the sharp end Andy and Andrew slugged it out together for most of the race before Andrew drew clear in the final stages to beat Andy and become club x country champion for the first time, with Scott not far behind in 3rd and Kieran 4th, Duncan finished well in 5th after sacrificing his time at the mix up.
At the other end James made up 3 mins on last year and then the bold Kenny Stevenson just back from a 10 year drugs ban seemed to be at it again as he breezed through the field on turbo charge to nick 7th place from Natalie who fell twice but still retained the Ladies Championship. Alas the extra lap around the park was too much for Cat and she tired near the end and gave way to the big dug that she thought was chasing her which turned out to be me panting away like a big Alsatian. Margaret wore down the fast starting Heather and regained the Ladies Vet title.
All in all, a good race with plenty of position changes and battles in the heavy heavy mud and deep puddles but was thoroughly enjoyable, a big thankyou to Caroline for acting as time keeper and starter and to John and Finlay for all their support.
