Devilla Forest 15k

One of my favourite races, starts in the grounds of Tulliallan Police College and runs through Devilla Forest on a mixture of fire paths and muddy bog. In the end only four Harriers made the journey this year, but there was a record entry of 716 overall.

After doing a recce of the course a few weeks ago the mud and deep puddles off the fire path came as no surprise and at times we were down to a single file slog as the runners bunched at particularly testing parts, and this drained the strength from the legs as the race went on. The course was extended by 300m this year due to the “plank” across a brook being deemed unsafe and made the total distance 9.5 miles and therefore all the times were slower but the positions remained relative.

All in all, a great race and a great workout, everyone looked to be enjoying the fun of the mud and the rain stayed off which was a bonus. There were two welcome water stops and the race was well marshalled throughout with happy cheering marshals. Well Done Carnegie Harriers !!
