Milngavie Trail Race

A local race for me, it is only just over 2 miles to the start from my house, so I jogged down in the morning sun to the scout hall in Milngavie.

Maryhill had 5 runners in the race me, Margaret, Chris Gunn, Fletcher and Linda.

The start scoots you round a wee park and through Milngavie town centre then on to the WHW to run up to Mugdock park, the first half of the route involves a fair degree of up hill, but thankfully a lot of it is in the shade so I got some relief from the heat. However, once at Mugdock it become more open and on a day like today HOT.

The race goes out as far as the Carbeth Huts and then comes back along the WHW to the foot of Kyber Hill, once through the gate into the woods you are directed off onto a fairly rough trail running parallel to the main path for about 1km before returning to the main path/route to the finish.

I was pretty tired by the end, combination of heat, previous races, age and lack of fitness all taking their effect by the end.

The race was won by Del Young, Garscube, 52:10
First female was Jennifer Rooney, Kilbarchan, 1:03:12

Duncan Riddell 37th, 1:07:28
Linda Sinclair 116th, 1:23:27
Margaret Peebles 149th, 1:30:36
Chris Gunn 179th, 1:40:26
Fletcher Murdoch 185, 1:42:29

There was a bottle of beer for each runner at the finish and a massive selection of free tea and cake, Margaret also picked up a spot prize of a bottle of wine. A great wee race well worth having a go at. There were 196 finishers.
