This year’s club trail (hill) race was not only the final club race of the season but the decider for the Men’s merit league. Kieran had to finish third or better to win the league outright for the first time. The race was the same course as the last two years, a 11K route out along Campsie Dene Road from the war memorial start in Blanefield, before a rapid downhill around the Glengoyne distillery and then back along the West Highland Way. The weather was incredibly hot (24 C) and so this was a punishing race in parts, particularly the 450 feet of climbing on the West Highland Way and the climb at the end back into the village. Despite the weather (and the hills), this as always was a very enjoyable and in parts competitive race. There was a bumper turnout from the club. This year only two people got lost. Despite winning the race last year, Craig Gilmour went a bit too far along Campsie Dene Road and Chris Gunn who was running the route for the first time got completely lost and ended up doing an out and back to Kilearn. The race was won by Andy Sutherland (Trail Race Champion) and the ladies trophy was won by Linda Sinclair.
Many congratulation to Kieran for running a really strong race to come home in third and to take the Mens’ merit league for 2015-2016. Margaret ran a really good race as well to confirm her as the winner of the Ladies Merit league.
