I went over to run this race a month ago and arrived at Pollok park to discover it was cancelled due to a Highland Cattle show, so it was quite a relief when I cycled into Pollok park this time and there was no sign of Countryfile type folk. Although I’m sure I saw Chris Hever with a Barbour jacket and deerstalker taking photos of the cattle.
There was a field of 294 runners lined up at the start and after half a mile I had settled into my pace and passed 3 or four runners who had went off too quick. My first mile was 6.16 but I was amazed at how far ahead Leslie Chisolm of Garscube was and I thought she must be close to breaking the female record of 17.46. I felt quite tired on the second lap and was really looking forward to seeing that beloved 200 metres to go sign. I managed to sprint (or powershuffle) down the last 200 and finish in 19.40 for 14th place.
First male was Matthew Sullivan of Shettleston in 16.13.
First female was Lesley Chisolm of Garscube in 17.51 (just five seconds short of the record).
