Last Sunday morning was the Helensburgh Half Marathon. After a night of torrential rain, the conditions were excellent for running with a very light drizzle and a cool temperature of 12-13 degrees celsius.
The course was the usual out and back, starting at the swimming pool and heading west out to Faslane before coming back the same way through Helensburgh. Then turning back just before the new high school and finishing the last couple of miles along the A814. With 390 running, the race was won by some distance by Benjamin Melby of Garscube Harriers in 1:13:30. The first female in 35th place was Claire McArthur (unattached) in a time of 1:23:42. The Maryhill Harriers were represented by the Knightswood Shuffler, John Weir who ran an excellent race coming 95th with a time of 1:31:41 beating his own time last year by around three minutes.
