Partick Trinity 5k

Saturday saw the third running of the Kelvin 5k Fun Run in aid of Radio Lollipop at Yorkhill Hospital. Three Maryhill Harriers, Chris Caroline and Laura, competed this year in what transpired to be not such a “fun” run as it had been in previous years. The first clue to the competitive edge to the race was when we saw athletes in the familiar tops of Inverclyde and Glasgow University and one or two from Garscube incognito.
The course was changed slightly from last year, starting on a downward gradient and therefore me being me took off at a hare’s pace for the 1st km only to be caught and passed by Caroline going into the 2nd km, a glance back at a bend and Laura was not far behind. The hill leading up to the 3rd km seemed steeper than last year with Caroline maintaining her advantage of 50m with Laura a similar distance behind me. The good thing about this course is that it has a virtual 1km downhill finish which gave me a chance to make progress on catching Caroline but she held on beating me by 8 seconds with a great PB of 23m10s, with Laura chasing me home by just 35 seconds with a phenomenal PB of 23m 53s! knocking a fantastic 3 mins from last year’s time. I lost 20s from last year finishing in 23m18s but delighted all the same.
The winner on the day was Chris Barlas of Inverclyde in 16m 44s, and the first female home was Elizabeth O’Keefe in 22m34s.But the undoubted performance of the day was from 2nd place Ryan Gray in 17m 6s who is an “under 13” from Inverclyde.
33rd Caroline Hassan 23m 10s..PB (5th Female)
34th Chris Hever 23m 18s
37th Laura Muirhead 23m 53s..PB (8th Female)
104 Finishers
