Connic Hill

A new race in the hill running calendar, and a real cracker.

The route starts off running over the west highland way through the woods from Balmaha car park, then you cut off straight up some rocky faces to the tops of 4 peaks, the far away one at 361m. After this, it is back off the top and on the West highland Way for a bit, which is getting quite rough now, you then follow a grassy ridge with great running before descending back into the woods for a short rough scrabble back to the starting road and a quick blast to the finish.

I, as usual started near the back, and passed a good number of people on the climb, which did involve walking, but made good progress through the field to be just behind Shona Robertson at the top, I chased her all the way down the West Highland Way, and despite a fall on the worst of the descent I passed her on the grassy ridge, but was passed myself by Stuart Simpson. Stayed like this till the finish.

The race was won by Peter Devenport, Bellahouston RR in 26:47, first female was Shona Robertson of Westerlands in 19th place in a time of 31:58. I finished in 18th place with a time of 31:52, 66 runners took part in the race.

Great fun, I really enjoyed the race, a good route and atmosphere, thanks to Chris Upson for organising the race.
