Three of our very own Marydolls took part in the Edinburgh marathon and Scottish half marathon on Sunday 23rd May 2010. Julie and Jessica took on the grueling 26.4 miles while Paula whizzed round the half.
It was a great day although it was really tough, a lot harder than expected. It was amazing to see approx 20,000 people turn up.
Julie pulled a muscle at about 19 miles which slowed her down quite a bit. She said she really struggled with the heat as temperatures went up to as high as 25 degrees and she got badly burnt (note to invest in some super waterproof sunscrean next time!).
The crowd were fantastic, people were out with water guns and hoses to cool people down and hand out sweets and water.
Unfortunately someone collapsed and died after doing the first leg of the relay which really put a dampner on the day. Our thoughts are with his family.
All in all it was a great day, although next time maybe a winter marathon may be better!
