The 7th Men’s Health Forum Scotland 10k took place in what I would class as perfect running weather; cool and overcast, in both Bellahouston and Pollok parks. After a slightly delayed start due to car parking issues, in excess of 2800 runners got on their way.
Five Maryhill Harriers were in attendance: Andy, Ehsan, Gordon, Kenny and myself. During the race I was feeling pretty good and my splits were on target to beat my PB of 39:50. I hit the halfway point in 19:13 (a good 10-15 seconds faster than my 5k PB!) and was feeling pretty good while maintaining a pace of just under 4 mins per km. After a wee sprint finish, I set a chip time of 39:17. I liked the course, there’s some hills in Pollok park, but having run the Parkrun plenty of times and the Dick Wedlock last month, I know what to expect in there.
The Maryhill performance of the race has to go to Ehsan, who told us all at the start that he was aiming for 40 mins, but the last I seen of him during the race he was tearing off into the distance at a considerably faster pace than that! He gave Andy a fright by overtaking him at one point and finished in a mightily impressive chip time of 37:29, helping to motivate Andy to take 50 seconds off his own PB in the process! The race was won outright by Wegne Tafese in a time of 30:26. Special mention to Eshan’s parents for their support, and Evelyn for the cheers throughout the race.

Gordon Curran – 35:35
Ehsan Ahmad – 37:29 (PB)
Andy Sutherland – 37:32 (PB)
