2013 Dunky Wright 5k

With a definite hint of good feeling in the air off the back of the PB magazine article, a total of 9 Harriers made the short trip through to Clydebank for one of our favourite races (which honours a former Maryhill Harrier) – the Dunky Wright 5k.
Conditions were ideal for this kind of race. Slightly damp, a little chill in the air, and thankfully very little wind (which has been known to make this wee course tougher in the past).
This was also to be the club’s inaugural 5k championships, so we were guaranteed to see some real effort put in by everyone in an effort to secure one of the club’s new trophies. First home for Maryhill was Gordon in a new PB of 17 minutes exactly. Not far behind was Andy, who is showing no signs of letting up in his efforts to chase down Gordon.
First lady home for Maryhill, and winning her first trophy at the club, was Catriona who also ran a PB of 22:18. Cat was unlucky not to catch her nemesis, Chris Hever, who – in his effort to stay ahead of the ladies 5k champ – turned in yet another personal best performance.
A great day at the office for Maryhill Harriers, with more signs of improvement right across the board. Really encouraging stuff, if you consider the other runners at the club who couldn’t make it along on the day, and would’ve undoubtedly featured well up in the race finishing positions.
The results will be posted here when they become available. In the meantime, be sure to have a look at these times from the same race 4 years ago which underline the real progress being made by our runners.
Many thanks to Clydesdale Harriers for putting on this great race, and thanks to Joe McCartney for the shouts of encouragement during the race.
