2013 Maryhill Harriers XC Championship

Having eventually managing to set a date for our club Cross Country Championships, and settling on the Chris Hever designed course, it was down to John Paul Academy for the big event.

After the junior race which saw 20+ of our younger members do their one lap around the grass of Maryhill Park, it was over to the 13 seniors who weren’t going to get it so easy as they were sent down to the muddy paths alongside the River Kelvin. The course then came back up to the football park and track via Acre Path, then onto a lap of the saturated grass around the park. Back to the gates outside the riding school for another lap gave us a total distance of 7km.

Finishing positions and times….

1. Gordon – 29:13
2. Craig – 29:58
3. Andy Sutherland – 30:43
4. Jamie – 31:47
5. John – 31:55
6. Andrew Stevenson – 33:29
7. Duncan – 33:38
8. Natalie – 34:48
9. Kenny A – 35:59
10. Iona – 37:45
11. Catriona – 38:32
12. Kenny S – 40:17
13. Margaret – 42:02
Some determined performances there, especially if you consider that a few of the runners had been competing in some weekend races just a few days previously. A special mention to young Andrew Stevenson who, having just won the junior race a few minutes previously, immediately went on to complete the senior course, taking a few notable scalps along the way. One to watch for the future, i’m sure. Also, a big thank you to Chris for coming up with the course, and Caroline and Ben for the support and timekeeping.
