Three Harriers, John, Caroline and Fletcher competed in this race in the blue of Maryhill, while Gordon raced in the colours of the Scottish Fire Service to fulfill a committment to the SFS and Bellahouston Harriers.
The conditions were cool and dry and the course relatively flat run solely on tarmac, with two complete loops in and around Pollok Park. Gordon was trying out new tactics of running as fast as he could from the start until he blew up, these tactics were entirely successful as he did indeed blow up halfway into the race with “stitch like” symptoms which forced him to stop temporarily, causing him to finish further down the pack than usual.
Meanwhile John Weir, led the rest of the Harriers home, running well but just failing by 5 seconds in his bid for a sub 40 min 10k. Caroline came next running well to come 10th in her category, followed by Fletcher only 3s outside a seasons best time, which was even more remarkable as he had ran in a very hot and humid 10k the previous evening.
The Harriers were supported by Chris and Andy both failing to secure a hamburger at the end due to the very long queue. The race was won by Paul Sorrie of Shettleston Harriers in 31m 18s. 1st female (44th overall) was Louise Mitchell of Bellahouston Harriers.
Maryhill Times were:
Gordon Curran : 36m 14s –18th
John Weir : 40m 04s–66th
Caroline Hassan:49m 26s—208th (29th Female)
Fletcher Murdoch:54m 13s-244th
There were 299 finishers. Full results HERE.
