Last Sunday was the 8th Balfron 10K race which took place under cool, sunny conditions. The route is an out and back along traffic-free country roads. For me, this is the toughest 10K road race in the local area (even harder than the Barge!) with a tough climb from 7 to 8.5K which seems to go on all the way back in to the village.
As always, there is a great atmosphere to the race and its always particularly well organised. Every year, a “celebrity” starts us off and this year was the turn of Lauren Gray, one of the women curlers who won a bronze medal at the winter Olympics. She actually joined us in the race at the front and as we passed her one runner quipped it was the first time he had overtaken an Olympian in a 10K (you had to be there!).
Anyway, on the day a total of 599 runners completed the course with the race being won by a country mile (quite literally) by Robert Russell from Central AC in a time of 32.37. First lady home was Lyndsey Morrison also from Central AC in 15th place with a time of 37.39. The mighty blues were represented by two runners and special mention to Craig who still managed a very respectable time on that course the day after running the third leg of the fling.
22nd Andy Sutherland (38.52)
27th Craig White (39.31)
