This years Springburn Harriers 7K canal canter took place on Wednesday evening in pretty good, cool conditions for running. Even the wind seemed to settle for the race. It was the usual course, starting on the canal just across from Bishopbriggs leisuredome and proceeding back along the canal into Glasgow for about 2.5K, a 2K loop around Possil Marsh and then back along the canal finishing back at the bridge.
Being along the canal, the course was absolutely flat resulting in a pretty fast race. I got hemmed in the start, but managed to overtake a few folk as the race opened up. There was then plenty space to move up the field and I then raced a few other club runners round Possil Marsh and back along the canal. With a similar feel to the Tour of Clydeside races, this was a low-key but highly enjoyable race and a bargain at only £2!!
From a field (60) of mainly club runners, the race was won by Louis O’Hare from Kirkintilloch Olympians (who were using the race as one of their club league races) in a time of 22.38. First lady was Shona McMannus (Kelvin Runners) in a time of 25.23. A big thanks to Mick for the support and advice at 400M to go.
Special mention also to Duncan who continues to sets PBs following on from a big summer of cycling. In this race, he knocked a minute off last yearas time.
Results for Maryhill Harriers:
4th: Andy Sutherland (23.53)
20th: Duncan Riddell (27.09) PB
41st: Linda Sinclair (32.38)
