Helensburgh 10k

Starting as usual at the bastion of historical learning that is Hermitage Academy, this years Helensburgh 10k took place in glorious sunshine.

As the first race in the Polaroid series, the field was very competitive with a high number of entries from club runners. The route remained the same as previous years and a mix of adrenaline, cheering first years and the possible residue from a week of drinking Belgian beers meant I completed the first 2k in 7 minutes 30. The impact of starting too quickly, a steep section on Sinclair Street and having the sun right in my face meant the next 2k were completed in 9 minutes. Thankfully, I found my rhythm with a few other runners and at the halfway mark was hitting a more consistent pace. In the straight drag from 6k to the 9k marker I started to reel in some runners from Dumbarton AAC, but sadly died on my arse in the last 500 meters. A course pb made for a successful evening and set a good marker for the rest of the series. Roll on next weeks race in Dumbarton (scene of my all time pb).

Thanks to all who have been out running with me over the last few months.
