Dumbarton 10k

Four Harriers ran in the second race of the Polaroid series, which this year was out of sync, so rather than being Clydebank, it was the Dumbarton race.

The start was different from the last couple of years, but from what I remember it was the same start on the grass as the only time I ran this one 3 years ago. It was a good night for it, cool with a little drizzle just before the start. All four of us started together quite a bit back, so it was about 16 seconds after the race start before our chip timing was activated. I’ve not had great year (just been lazy with my training, no excuses!), so instead of going off as fast I could chasing a PB on a perfect night for it, I held back a bit at the start and kept it steady but under 40 minutes pace, which meant I was continually passing other runners until about the 8km mark. It was quite warm in the middle part of the course along the leafy, humid cycle path despite the cool evening, and it took its toll as I tired a bit in the last 2 km.

I finished a little bit quicker than in the Troon 10k a few weeks ago, so I was quite happy with my time and more so with the steady, disciplined pace I ran at. Tewoldebeberhen Mengistgab won the race in an impressive time of 30:26 and the first female was Lyndsay Morrison in 35:38.
