Earlier this year, all 400 places for The Southside Six filled up in less than 30 minutes, with two Harriers managing to get a place in this popular, challenging race that takes place in and between six different parks in Glasgow’s southside and contains road running, trails, hills and even stairs in its 16 mile course.
Scott and I started the race together, but I pulled out a small lead and didn’t see him after the King’s Park section. I ran with a small group until the muddy trail in Pollok Park, where I found the ground tricky on the slippy surface, but recovered to catch a few runners on the way in to Bellahouston Park, where the dreaded stairs at 13 miles await. I recovered quite well after the stairs, but was struggling badly by the time I reached Queen’s Park again and was very glad to see the finish line after another set of stairs and an uphill finish.
The race was won by Jack Arnold by 1:34:55.
Maryhill results:
68th Craig White – 2:01:31
91st Scott Coulter – 2:06:11
