McAndrew Relay

McAndrew 2010 Start

This years 71st annual McAndrew relay race saw 2 male teams and 2/3 of a female team from the mighty Maryhill Harriers take part. Each male team has 4 members, and female teams have 3, and the route is a 3.3 mile jaunt around Jordanhill, including some nifty wee hills to get your legs nice and warm! This race is always popular and has a fast field of club runners. The winning male senior team was the Glasgow Uni Hares and Hounds in an overall time of 1:06:13 with the Calderglen Harrier A team winning the male vet prize in 1:12:46. The first female team was the Victoria Park girls in 59:07.

Our Senior male team came 24th out of 44 in an overall time of 1:23:44:
Andrew Sutherland 20:34
Gordon Curran 20:58 (41:32)
Robert McLean 21:10 (1:02:42)
Stephen Jones 21:02 (1:23:44)

The Vet male team came 6th out of 12 in a time of 1:24:20 (that’s 36 seconds behind the young ones!!)
Michael McCartney 19:52
John Weir 20:34 (40:26)
Duncan Riddell 21:51 (1:02:17)
David McLenaghan 22:03 (1:24:20)

The Marydolls:
Caroline Jones 21:02
Caroline Hassan 25:00 (46:02)

Well done especially to David and Robert in their first outing with the club, to Duncan for his first race as a Vet, to Caroline Hassan for a PB on this course, and a big thank you to our mascot Joe McCartney for providing encouragement and good craic-“Did we only get one snowball?! We need a new committee”. Thanks to Mick for the tea, and a special mention also to David’s wife Elaine for putting up with us all and having a smile on her face despite having to hang about on a grey October day with a bunch of sweaty runners.
