This was my third outing in a row at the Jersey Half and Caroline’s second. It’s turned into an annual event as we visit Caroline’s brother Paul and family and the three of us do the event. Paul has finished ahead of me in the past two years by a couple of minutes on each occasion so I was determined to reverse the positions this time, Caroline was leaving us to it and just hoping to get near to 2hrs.
There is a good 2 mile downhill start and Paul shot off soon after and that was the last I saw of him. The course then loops round onto the seafront path til 6 miles when we hit the steep climb up to the old railway path at 8 miles, then another 2 miles downhill to the promenade for a 3 mile flat run to the finish along the sea front. The conditions were perfect and I was having a really good run but never saw Paul til the finish. It was only when we got the results we saw how close we were as we were only separated by one person and 39 seconds which is amazing as we didn’t run together and there were over 500 runners!
Caroline meanwhile ran well and took 6 minutes off her previous best for the course and was happy with her time. We’ll hopefully be back again next year.
