The Garscube Complex played host to near-enough 200 runners this Saturday as the Glasgow Uni Hares & Hounds hosted their annual 5-miler. An undulating course proved to be trickier than first glance gave credit. Still, no less than thirteen Harriers made the short trip up to compete alongside Joe who was a welcome face on the sidelines.

The returning Cat was the first home for the women this time around, some very solid running on show to ensure that she finished sub-40 to consolidate a superb display in the Cross Country a fortnight back. However, it was again Lynsey proving that consistency is key as she extended her lead at the top of the Merit League, finishing in a time of 40.36 on the day. Linda wasn’t at all far behind in what proved to be quite a congested midfield, good enough for 41.20 and another 28 points to add to the collection. Caroline pushed for a well-deserved third in category and Margaret brought it home for Maryhill in 44.40. The time ensured that we, as a team, all managed sub-9 minute miles.

In the men’s, Rory made up for a missed effort at the Kirky. He had no excuses really and duly finished with a PB of 28.48, being made to pay for it on Sunday. Some dubious GU timing put Craig P and Finn on level pegging. Thankfully for Craig P, he had the Garmin on and will take second place on the day with 32.33. Finn ran strong, the familiar sprint finish once again clear for all to see. Saturday was good enough for a 5 mile PB, locking in the bonus points for the Merit League. Scott was next, finishing strong with 33.33, closely backed up by Craig W who managed a 34.57 in one of his first competitive races back. Another PB was rent asunder, this time thanks to James in 36.23. Chris once again looked strong (shout out to the vests) and beat 40 minutes while Kenny finished just over that at 41.34, not forgetting the race coming at quite a poor time for him with regards to his injury.

All in all, with a relatively blustery day taken into consideration, there was good reason for celebration in the clubhouse post-race. Tea and digestives are always welcome, especially given the calibre of running on show. Until the Nationals.
