It was November, it was baltic and it was wet. Three Harriers ventured over the river to Bellahouston Park to race the Jimmy Irvine 10k organised by Bellahouston Road Runners.
Cat, Natalie and Kevin shielded from the wind and rain as best they could as the start approached. Other than a couple of races for Cat and some parkruns here and there for Natalie and Kevin, it had been a while since this trio represented the Mighty Blues together.
The race route had been altered over the past couple of years and involved two and half laps of the park with some hills and twists and turns thrown in to keep it interesting. It started with a short uphill then down past House for an Art Lover as runners vied for position.
Kevin ran a steady first 5k and managed to up the pace for the second half, moving up the field and finishing strongly to be the first Harrier home and behind the second female.
Natalie was next to finish in what was her first race post pregnancy and was delighted to beat her target of 50 minutes.
Cat had picked up an injury on the way round but held on, fighting for the finish and completed a wet but fun Harriers day out at The Jimmy.
First male was Stuart McGeachy, Campbeltown RC in 33.22. First female was Jennifer Whetton, Central AC in 37.01. 583 runners completed the race.
Afterwards it was time to grab our superb t-shirts, quickly say our goodbyes and get back to the warmth of our cars.
MARYHILL RESULTS (Chip Times):
36th Kevin Campbell 38:11
286th Natalie Somerville 48:22 (48th female)
326th Cat Nisbet 49:36 (63rd female)
Thanks to the organisers for another great event. The weather never dampens the spirits at The Jimmy. See you next year.
