This year’s Dick Wedlock 10K which doubled up as our 10K club championship took place under sunny but hot conditions (my car said 21 degrees!). The course started at Cartha Rugby club and headed into the park following the same route as the Brian Goodwin for 2K. It then involved two loops of the centre of the park (including a section of the Pollok Park run), before heading back to Cartha Rugby club for the final 2K. The course was reasonably flat, except for the middle 6K which was pretty undulating.
I tried to use the race as a training run but by 1K the old racing instincts kicked in(?) and I took off trying to catch successive groups of runners in front of me. Like most folk, the first few kilometres were OK, but then the heat kicked in making the middle of the race quite tough, before then just hanging on to the end. The race which was completed by 153 runners was won by Jamie Clements (East Kilbride) in 33.41. The first lady was Pamela McCrossan (Clydesdale Harriers) in 27th place and in a time of 43.02. The results for the mighty blues were:
9th: Andy Sutherland (38.43)
13th Craig Perrie (39.50)- PB
25th Scott Coulter (42.05)
69th James Prior (48.08)
72nd Chris Hever (48.27)
79th Catriona Nisbet (49.17)
88th Kenny Henderson (51.20)
107th Margaret Peebles (55.06)
This means this year’s club 10K champions are Andy and Cat. Also, a great performance by the first four men meant that Maryhill Harriers were 2nd guest mens team. Also special mention to Craig Perrie, who despite the heat set a PB and broke for the 40 minute mark for the first time. A big thanks to race organiser Gordon Curran for an excellent event (the fruit at the end very much helped recovery after the race!) and to Caroline Hever for marshalling and the shouts of support.
