Training

Juniors

Junior members train on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6pm and 7pm, meeting at John Paul Academy. Training is provided by Scottish Athletics qualified coaches with an emphasis on fun. We cater for juniors aged between 9 and 16 years old.

Tuesday focusses on indoor athletics consisting of javelin, hurdles, triple jump and relays.

Thursday focusses on outdoor running sessions using the nearby Caldercuilt running track and local area, with a repeating five week cycle:

  • Week 1 – Pack run
  • Week 2 – Fartlek
  • Week 3 – 80m reps
  • Week 4 – Pyramid session
  • Week 5 – Hills

All junior sessions consist of a warm-up, drills, followed by the main training session and cool down.

Seniors

Senior members train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We meet at John Paul Academy at 7pm and head out at 7:15pm. We occasionally train on other nights too, for example using the facilities at the academy for strength conditioning on Mondays and meeting for long runs or exploring new trails on Sundays.

Tuesday tends to be a night for tempo runs round the local area with routes covering between five and seven miles. Our running groups leave at staggered times or complete shorter or longer distances as we all aim to meet back at the academy at roughly the same time.

On Thursday we focus on speed sessions, using the local Caldercuilt running track, which is two minutes from the academy, or the surrounding area for hill reps, interval training and fartlek runs.
