This was my first time running this race. I had stepped in at the last minute for Chris who has been carrying a hamstring injury recently. I had been advised it was a relatively flat course and this turned out to be the case other than one short hill. It is two identical laps round Pollok Park with the end of each lap being out on the road. The flatness of the course along with the two identical laps make this a good race mentally and a chance at a PB. Indeed the organisers bill the race as a PB race. The cooler weather was also a blessing.
After feedback from previous years, the organisers split the runners into three waves at the start, based on estimated finishing times, to ensure a smooth start. I have to say this worked a treat. The race was won by Luke Traynor of Giffnock North AC in 28:31. Jenny Bannerman, of Inverness Harriers, was the first woman home in 35:08.
The real talking point of the night though was the stunning PB of 46:04 from young James Prior of the Maryhill Harriers. James also finished in 10th in the MV55 category. Catriona Nesbit also took part under her own name and finished in 49:11. At the finish each runner received a goody bag of unhealthy snacks. There was some more speed on display as the queue formed for the burger and beer. All in all a good race and I will be back next year.
