8 hardy souls took part in this years club cross country championship on Saturday morning.
Despite the weather on the day being relatively dry, the course still featured its usual trenches along the Kelvin and the slog through the mud of Maryhill Park. Andrew was back to defend his crown, but Craig promised stiff competition on his first outing on this course. Elsewhere, it was intriguing to see who would come out on top in the mud in the famous rivalry between Chris and Kenny, whilst Margaret and Cat were going head to head for the ladies title.
After a fast start in which he led throughout the tricky section along the side of the Kelvin, Andrew was eventually overtaken by Craig upon entering the park who then held the lead impressively to take home his first Harriers crown. A lack of training perhaps showing for Andrew who finally relinquished the trophy, finishing 2nd followed by Kieran in 3rd.
James was next to cross the line in 4th, before an epic final surge over the last 100m from Chris was not enough to stop Kenny taking 5th. Another few meters and it would have potentially been a different story, with Kenny looking delighted to see the end. Cat then followed, her recent marathon training being put to good use to take the ladies title ahead of Margaret.
A great effort from all runners on a notoriously hellish course. Results below :
