The 2018 Merit League continued with a bang on Saturday 25th November as a terrific ten Harriers rolled up at Balloch Country Park for the DAAA Cross Country Championships.

A regular fixture in our race calendar (although not always the most loved), the route takes you on a loop of the park with fabulous view over Loch Lomond, when you feel brave enough to lift your eyes from the mud. The terrain was actually an improvement on recent years, with the recent icy snap seeming to help the ground maintain some solidity in parts. The weather on the day turned out perfect after a threatening icy shower ended just before the start.

With Craig P and Andrew S vying for top spot, I was content to tuck in along with Kieran and try and enjoy the run. After catching me at the end of the first ‘big’ loop, he had other ideas and left me for dead. Powering off into the distance, I don’t think he stopped running til he was safely into the pub watching the rugby. Congratulations to Craig for clinching his first 30 points as a Harrier with an excellent performance to beat Andrew, our cross country specialist.

In the ladies race, Natalie grabbed top Harrier spot despite strong runs all round. Special mention to Margaret who had been out all day with the juniors and must have been frozen by the time our run came around! Great performance also from Lynsey who completed a double cross country after doing Tollcross parkrun in the morning.
